What is Paleo and why am I doing it?

This blog is about my quest towards eating more healthy, organic and natural food. That means I'm cutting out all preservatives and processed foods in favour of more 'clean' foods.

This journey is all about finding a more healthy and more happy self :-)

After over 9 months of eating this way I can honestly say it has had a huge impact on my entire life. I have so much more energy and have been enjoying life a lot more! I used to get really tired, so tired that most days I would have to have a nap to get me through the day. But no longer! I get up earlier (because I need to cook my breakfast) and I go to bed earlier so I can relax and enjoy reading. I think what I've learnt is that healthy eating impacts every aspect of your life not just your body.

It's about giving yourself healthier food that is nurturing your mind, body and spirit!

So what am I eating?

After literally hundreds of hours online reading about health and nutrition I decided to start doing the Paleo diet in late Jan 14.

Paleo is all about eating whole foods that your body recognises as food. Nothing processed or with chemicals or preservatives. It's all about natural good food :-)

*Fruits- berries, bananas, apples, oranges if it's a fruit its in! (but in moderation because fruit does contain a lot of natural sugar)
*Vegies (lots and lots of vegies!)
*Meats- that means lots of bacon, sausage, steak, chicken, fish
*Eggs-two every morning, sometimes one for lunch or dinner too
*Dairy- whole full fat milk, butter and cheese
*Coconut oil for cooking and making Paleo treats like 'fat bombs'.

Whats out?

*WHITE SUGAR!
*Processed and refined foods including bread and pastas
*Gluten

PALEO IN A NUT SHELL:

Lean Proteins such as fish and chicken support healthy muscles and immune system, not to mention it keeps the body satisfied and full between meals. Which means I'm never hungry, yay!
Fruits and Veggies are rich in antioxidants, vitamin and minerals. Mmmm delicious vitamins!
Healthy fats such as nuts, seeds avocados, olive oil, fish and grass-fed meat are rich in monounsaturated and Omega-3 fats.
